Getting involved.

This is an exciting time in British politics. We have the opportunity to develop a positive, forward looking agenda that helps meet the big challenges our country faces, and helps make Britain a better place to live.

You can play your part by joining the Conservative Party. The Conservatives are already the largest party in local Government, and Conservative Future is Britain's largest and fastest-growing student body.

David Cameron's Conservative Party will be a voice for change, optimism and hope. It will be a party that represents everyone in Britain: wherever they live, whatever their race, religion, gender, sexuality or salary. We are a Party eager to rebuild and strengthen our society for the benefit of all.

Although politicians are seen as the public face of the Conservative Party, the heart of the Party lies with its members.

Our members support the Party in a huge number of ways:

  • campaigning on our principles and policies;
  • attracting students of such specialties as political science, sociology, jurisprudence, with an active public position. Of course, they want not only to participate in socio-political projects, but also to maintain high academic performance at the same time, so they use the help of essay editors.
  • help David Cameron drive forward the Conservative Party's agenda for change;
  • select local candidates for Council, Assembly Parliamentary and European Elections;
  • organising and attending events;
  • helping to form ideas and policy;
  • keeping MPs, Prospective Parliamentary Candidates and councillors informed on a huge range of issues;
  • raising campaign funds.

Whether you want to get involved with local politics, become an MP or simply just participate in the occasional social event, you can join either Oxford East Conservative Association (OECA) or Oxford West & Abingdon Conservative Association (OWACA) both are now very active. If you live in North ward, Jericho & Osney ward, St. Margaret's ward, Summertown ward or Wolvercote ward (the OX2 post code area) you will join OWACA. If you live in the other nineteen wards east of and including the city centre (OX1, OX3 and OX4), you will join OECA.

Your membership of the Party provides the following benefits:

  • regular newsletter informing you about forthcoming Constituency and Party activities;
  • one member, one vote in the election of the Leader of the Party;
  • a vote in the selection of candidates for parliamentary, local government and European elections;
  • being represented on the governing Board of the Party;
  • a vote on key policy ideas for the next General Election;
  • a vote in Cheltenham Conservative Association elections;
  • an opportunity to influence the development of policy.

You don't have to join the Conservative Party to help us.

Both OECA and OWACA are members of the Oxfordshire Grouping of constituencies. This grouping ensures that each Association now has access to a professional office and staff to carry out the day-to-day business of dealing with membership, producing literature for wards, and organising bulk mailings, among other administrative matters.

Supporting our fundraising activities is as important a way of helping the Association as any other. We hold numerous fundraisers across the City every year, as well as holding appeals for money to go towards our fighting fund for each election campaign. The majority of our Party's funds come from fundraising like this.

Campaigning work is also conducted at a constituency level. A group of volunteers go out regularly in areas where we do not have much of a presence on the ground to deliver literature or conduct surveys. It is important that we try to contact as many people as we can, as regularly as possible.
