About Ed

Ed was born in Ashford, Kent, in 1977. He grew up in the County, attending the Harvey Grammar School in Folkestone before studying for a degree in Modern History at Oriel College in Oxford between 1997 and 2000, followed by a research Masters' degree at the same college, while he lived in Cowley.

After leaving Oxford, Ed worked for the Rt Hon Michael Ancram QC MP in Parliament, leaving after the 2005 General Election to pursue a career in management consultancy.

As a school governor, Governor Member of the RNLI, and someone who has worked closely with other voluntary organisations, Ed appreciates the important work of charities and volunteers to our communities.

He enjoys travelling, reading, listening to his (dated) music collection and spending time with his family and friends.

Ed in Oxford

Ed spent over four years living in Oxford, first studying for his degrees, and subsequently staying on in the city, commuting to London when he first started work, before his job forced him to move there. He is delighted to have been selected by Oxford East Conservatives to be their parliamentary candidate, for a city he loves, and which he is overjoyed to be returning to.

Ed in Politics

Ed does not come from a particularly political family, although both his parents have been actively involved in their local community. Ed, however, is a lifelong Conservative who was first tempted into politics by the mother of one of his school-friends who had them both out delivering leaflets and campaigning for the Conservative Party around Folkestone at an early age!

Between 2001 and 2005, Ed was Political Adviser and Speechwriter to Rt Hon Michael Ancram QC MP, who was then Deputy Leader of the Opposition and Shadow Foreign Secretary, travelling extensively in that role.

He has always been active as a campaigner and in the voluntary Party, serving recently on his local Branch Committee, as a member of the Association Executive Council, and being elected as a Westminster City Councillor in 2006, where his roles have focussed on health, adult social services, and planning. He understands how to deliver locally and in Parliament for the residents of a diverse, changing city like Oxford.

Ed is enjoying campaigning hard with the Oxford campaign team and is looking forward to the coming months and years in Oxford East, working alongside Nicola Blackwood in Oxford West and Abingdon, to give a city we all love the fresh start it deserves, standing up for the interests of everyone who lives and works in Oxford.
