Headington Hill & Northway Ward

Headington Hill and Northway is one of the six wards that form Oxford's North East Area.  The Ward takes in the Headington Hill Conservation Area and is bordered by Marston Road, The Northern By Pass, The John Radcliffe Hospital and Dunstan Park.  The ward is diversly populated and has a steep socio-economic gradient.  The ward can by spatially divided into three distinct areas, Headington Hill, The Lakes and the Northway Estate.  Headington Hill is characterised by leafy lane-like, unadopted streets with large expensive detached housing.  The Lakes is an inter-war housing development cahracterised by rendered semi detached and detached homes.  The Northway Estate is an interesting assortment of housing originaly built by the local authority. The Northway estate has sheltered housing, maisonettes and semi detached homes and even its own tower block - Plowman Tower (one of the six to be built in the City.)

Headington Hill & Northway:The Issues
Each area has its problems and all three share common issues and needs.

Issues of great common concern are the fear of crime and the problem of speeding drivers.  In Northway folk are concerned about run-off flooding from the John Radcliffe Hospital site, fly tipping, graffiti and vandalism.  In the Lakes issues such as dividing family homes into flats, overgrowing hedges and speeding traffic. In Headington Hill area the ongoing of maintenance and management of Pullen's Lane, fly parking, late night noise and disturbance.  Students living at the Brookes University Headington Hill campus are
concerned about street lighting late at night - particularly at Cotuit Hall.

Headington Hill & Northway Conservatives have been running a 'Twenty's the Limit' campaign and have been lobbying the County Council for a feasibility study into the introduction of residential twenty mile per hour zones.
