Carfax Ward
Carfax Ward covers the central area of Oxford and incorporates the majority of the central business district; the public University precincts of Radcliffe Square, Old and New Bodleian and the Sheldonian Theatre; Broad, Cornmarket, St Aldate, St Giles, The High and Queen's streets. The Oxford West End regeneration area and Westgate Shopping Centre fall into the ward boundaries. Balliol, Brasenose, St John's, Blackfriars, St Cross, Regent's Park, Trinity, Campion Hall, St Benet's Hall, St Peter's, Nuffield, Keble, Exeter, Jesus, Lincoln and Pembroke colleges are located in Carfax Ward, along with residential blocks of Worcester, The Queen's, Somerville and Christ Church.

The area falling within the ward boundaries is constantly active and the issues dynamic. The ward contains the majority of the late night drinking establishments, most of the City's retail capacity and all of the City's central place functions.

Carfax Ward: The Issues.

Balancing the vibrant nighttime economy with the lifestyle, needs and wants of residents is probably the most difficult of all of the problems that face central Oxford. Waste and recyclate collection has been very troublesome in the ward since the introduction of alternate weekly collections. Congestion and air pollution require action and a watching brief as does graffiti vandalism and fly posting. Aggressive begging, uncontrolled street peddling and rough sleeping are all issues that need constant attention.
